Matautu Wharf Extension
Civil
The Matautu wharf extension was a project initiated by the Government of Samoa
and funded by JICA to increase the wharf footprint in anticipation of increased
vessels. CaBella was engaged by Japanese Construction company, Wakachiku
Construction, to complete this project which consisted of pile driving 120 piles 40m
deep, constructing precast concrete beams offsite and onsite cast in situ over the
waters edge during ongoing operation of the wharf. The extension increased the
wharf footprint by 800m2 totalling to 2000m2
This project had unique challenges such as completing formwork over the ocean to
enable concrete topping
At the completion of this project, the port could dock 2 shipping vessels
simultaneously increasing the efficiency of offloading goods and enhancing Samoa’s
port capability for bigger vessels
